Shopping in New Bangkok

After spending the day navigating the small streets and hustle of Chinatown and Little India, we decided to head toward the Central Shopping district today.  I think we needed some familiarity.  There is an entire row of HUGE malls where we had heard you can find anything.  One mall even has an Aquarium in the basement.  We choose to go to Central World because we thought the prices might be more reasonable than some of the other malls (the one with an Aquarium has a Lamborghini dealership inside).  Plus this mall also had a fabric store.

We were amazed.  7 levels of shopping genius (Kat took the below photo).

We walked around for a few hours, all finding the stores that interested us.  John bought some clothes (with Kat's help of course), Karl and Kasen looked at toys & I found the fabric store.  Afterward we enjoyed some Korean hot pot (although we could have had Starbucks, McDonalds, dumplings, sushi.. the list was endless).

Not surprisingly, the prices were not amazing.  There were good deals to be had, but most things were foreign brands and were as much (or more) than in the States.  This seemed especially true of the toys, so we left all that Playmobile in the store.  Hopefully, the big weekend market will have better options (Chatuchak Market).

We got to ride the Skytrain (BTS) quite a bit today.  It has really been a fast and nice way to travel.  Here are Kat, John and Kasen ready for to catch a train.

After the mall, we were all ready to relax.  Kasen decided she wanted to head back to the hotel (this is a common desire for her - she asked for her "bedroom" a TON the first day).  Kat and I had other plans.

In the end, Karl and Kasen headed back to the hotel while the rest of us headed for... THAI MASSAGES.  While we were hoping for a full massage, we walked in without an appointment, so we had to settle for the Foot Reflexology massage.  We went to the Health Land near our hotel (the Sathorn location - http://www.healthlandspa.com/home.html) and it was phenomenal.  Everything was very cool and clean.  It looked like a massive house filled with lots of wood and tile. We settled into large, leather Lazy-boy chairs and got a terrific hour-long foot massage for about $13.  We all felt like we were floating as we walked out of there.

Karl and Kasen skipped the massage (although the woman who gave me my massage asked me to bring her back).  We met them back at the hotel pool.  The water was REALLY cold, but she seemed not to mind.

After our hotel's Happy Hour (free drinks & food we never miss), we headed to back to Sukhumvit Road (has the big malls on one end and restaurants/hotels on the other).  We headed to a fantastic Indian restaurant (Sara's - http://saras.co.th/) for dinner and I even stayed up later than 9pm.  Kasen, however, fell asleep on the BTS in route.  She slept all through the meal (which was probably too spicy for her anyway).

She has honestly been a trooper throughout the trip.  While we have killed any nap/sleep schedule from home, she still gets her shows in the morning (on the Ipad).  While it is clear we are doing things she might not have picked, everything is so different she seems interested in it all.  Our motto has been "everything is fun when you are 2 right?".  Still, we have had to admit some limitations.  The original plan was to hit Ayutthaya (the ancient city with the Buddha in the tree).  That was also the place we planned to see/ride elephants.  Once we learned it would be a 3 hr ONE-WAY trek either by bus or train, we realized it was beyond us.  We will be spending all day getting to the beach (45 min taxi to airport, 2 hr flight, 3 hr ferry, 1 hr long tail), so we decided we couldn't coup her up for an optional trip when we had a required one day later.
