Nana & Pepe Picard visit

Karl's parents, Ellen & Roger came last week to meet their first grandchild. It was so great to have them visit. There was always someone to hold Kasen and walk her around when she fussed.

This was the week we had Kase's second week appointment. It turned out she was a little on the light side, so having the extra help around was great while dealing with getting Kasen's weight up (she is now back to the 50th percentile weighing in at 8lbs 8oz this Tuesday).

The Picards (minus Uncle Matt) - Pepe, Kasen, Dad & Nana.

When they came, Ellen brought these pictures of Karl as a baby. Turns out everyone was right, Kasen is DEFINITELY a baby Picard. I scanned one of the pictures and included it below next to a picture of Kase taken today. Like father, like daughter. So maybe she got my.... hair?

Kasen's First Monologue

I told Karl having a kid would be fun. He agreed, but his fun is not exactly what I envisioned. Karl has found he can make Kasen dance or "say" funny things. I believe he learned it watching Scott with my niece Phaedra. Originally, I was trying not to encourage this, but I admit it is pretty funny. In fact the idea to film it was mine - what do you think? Here is Kasen (with help) describing the week we spent with Nana & Pepe Picard.

Pictures from the visit last week coming soon...

Happy 2 Week Birthday Kase!

Kasen turned 2 weeks old this past Saturday. We had a fantastic weekend filled with fun, friends, family & soccer.

Even before the weekend, Kasen met friends at her new favorite pub - Naked City. She slept soundly as I had my first good beer in 9 long months and Karl has his first good beer of... that day. Thanks Kat and Jeanette for getting us out of the house. The next night we had an old friend, Brian Benz, from Virginia come visit. Margarita's at Chupacabra on the deck was EXACTLY what the doctor ordered.

The Sounders game was Saturday afternoon. Karl and James were going to attend the game, while Kasen and I merely attended the pregame tailgate. There was a little rain, but as you can see by the photo of Tribe 131 - rain doesn't stop us. Kasen even got her own Mexican Wrestler mask - pink of course!
In case you can't see the outfit - that is a true shame... The Barksdales got Kasen a hoodie with cherries on it that matches these adorable red pants. It was the perfect outfit for her to meet the Tribe AND Karl's parents. Here is a better view of the cuteness:

After such an exhausting weekend, both our kids were exhausted!

Sunday Afternoon

It is a lazy Sunday at the Picarbockers. Karl has soccer later, but he wanted to watch some of the Masters golf tournament. Now Karl swears he likes golf, but I am convinced he merely likes it as a sleep aid. I mean who can listen to these uber-mellow announcers and NOT fall asleep? Not anyone in this house. I came down from my shower to this:

Is it any wonder I choose this guy? Not only does he change diapers, but he can get small infants to sleep. Sorry ladies, Kasen & I are keeping him.

Kasen's First Week

We were able to leave the hospital on Tuesday afternoon (4/6) after I got my staples out. It was nice to have the few days of help and so many awesome visitors, but we were eager to get home. We also finally put Kasen in some real clothes. Below is Karl holding her before we loaded her into her car seat.

Kasen complained slightly when we got her into the car seat, but she settled down once it was picked up and moving. She seemed to like riding in the car since she falls asleep once we get moving. Here she is on the way home from the hospital. The pink and brown blanket was hand-made by our friend Rebecca and serves as the perfect warm blanket for the car seat.

Once we arrived home, the biggest introduction had to occur... Kasen and Sterling met. He was super interested in smelling her and she seemed not to even notice him. He even gave her a few kisses that first day. We think he has gotten used to her this first week. When she cries he always comes to check things out and is generally not satisfied she is fine until he investigates the situation fully. We hope they will be the best of friends.

This week was also Kasen's first doctor's visit. Here is Karl holding her in the lobby.
She was a trooper - not too much crying and she has already started to gain weight. She was 7lbs 5oz when we left the hospital on Tuesday. By Thursday's doctor appointment she was back up to 7lbs 6.5oz. This girl can eat!

This week has been pretty fun. My mom has been in town and has been so much help. She even babysat and Karl & I got to see friends on Friday night. We weren't gone long, but you can't turn down a willing baby sitter. Kasen's next big visit will be from Karl's parents next week. I can tell she is looking forward to charming them too.

As I type Kasen is sleeping peacefully on my lap. Almost too cute for words:

Looking forward to week two,

First videos of Kasen

Introducing the newest member of our family: Kasen Madeline Picard. She was born Saturday - April 3rd, 2010 at 9:56pm. We are all doing great. Labor was ok, but Kasen was facing the wrong way. So, she wasn't making really any progress after 2 hrs of pushing, so a c-section had to be done. Not what we wanted, but as you can see we got a beautiful baby out of it. Kasen was 8 lbs 1.5 oz and 20 1/2 inches long.

Due to the c-section, we are still at the hospital. So here are some videos from yesterday and today (4/4 and 4/5). We'll share more as we take them and have time to post them.

If you haven't seen them yet, here are some pictures we have published on Flickr - http://www.flickr.com/photos/karlpicard/sets/72157623643715357/

We get to go home tomorrow, so look for less hospital setting pictures soon. Karl is truly a master diaper changer and baby burrito maker. He is doing great while I heal. Kasen is even doing her part by being a pretty freaking cute baby. It will be nice to have the whole family together tomorrow when we get home to Sterling.

Love,
Debra, Karl, Kasen & Sterling
