Kasen rocking out

Kasen's grandma gave her a CD for Christmas this year. Generally I am not a big fan of kids music, but this CD is personalized - it actually says "Kasen" in some of the songs. Really pretty cute.

I must say my daughter is not known for having discriminating music tastes - she has been known to bop along to commercials. Still, I think chewing on the CD adds a certain something ... don't you?

Girls should know how to fix things

I bought a toy/book shelf in hopes of keeping Kasen's toys up off the floor. She helped Karl assemble it. Although he did swear less, it seemed to take a little longer....

Picarbockers love TV

It's practically in her DNA. At least the remote is good for fine motor skills right?

9 Months old... time to grow up ;)

Kasen is now 9 months old.  She has been for a week now, but since her 9 month check-up was only yesterday I am pretending this post is not belated.  Just like my child is pretending to be interested in the book in the picture.  In reality her thought is.... "how am I going to get this into my mouth with this guy hovering?"  Already we are cramping her style.

Here are the important stats:
Height/Length:  29in
Weight:  21 lbs 11.5 oz

In case you are curious...  Kasen is smaller than I was at her age.  HA well meaning strangers who comment on her size!  Turns out we Picarbockers have big babies - WHAT OF IT?  She is not much smaller in length, but I killed her in weight.  I blame the stomach bug that worked its evil way through our house.  Don't worry nosy bitties.. she'll be back to fighting weight in no time.

My stats at 9 months:
Height/Length:  29 1/4 in
Weight: 22 lbs 1 oz

A doll made new again

This Christmas my mom gave Kasen a doll from my childhood. It was a fabric doll that I carried everywhere. As you would expect - the 30 year old doll needed some work. When my mom described the work that had to be done, the doll is basically all new. As you can see in the photo, she LOVES the yarn hair.

Karl's "gift" to me

Karl recently gave me a gift I am beginning to resent.  In his defense, I thought this gift was great when I received it - so I am sure he never intended its consequences.  What was this "gift" you ask?  Karl encouraged Kasen to use a spoon.

Before this event, I was a little concerned Kasen might need me at her senior prom to hold her utensils.  She has shown NO interest in holding anything at meals not even her bottle.  Anyway, when Kasen grabbed the spoon - Karl excitedly showed me his progress.

The problem with your baby wanting to feed themselves?  It is MESSY!  No, not just child with food on hands and face - I mean food on the walls and ceiling messy.  Especially when said child has 6 teeth - pulling the rubber spoon out of her mouth turns the utensil into quite a food catapult.  Plus, she does not want to actually feed herself.  She just wants to play with the spoon.  So when you take it, she screams... like a banshee.  I have sunken to using 2 spoons at a meal so that we can trade back and forth (this makes me messy too - great fun).  I tell myself some of the food must make it down her throat.  I have to tell myself this - otherwise I would omit the food part all together and just let her chew the spoon mess free.

So right now, Karl's gift is seeming like one of those presents you unwrap which looks great in the picture, but once you get it open you realize you have to assemble 3 million pieces... then paint it.  I see lots of laundry in my future.
